Eligibility Criteria

- You must reside in Alberta. Likewise, to be considered an Alberta resident, you must meet at least one of the following conditions must apply:
- One parent or legal guardian has permanent residence in Canada for at least 12 months immediately before commencing post-secondary studies and is living in Alberta, or Alberta is the last place the student has lived for 12 consecutive months before commencing post-secondary studies, or the student’s spouse/partner has maintained permanent residence in Alberta for 12 consecutive months to the person attending post-secondary.
- All applicants must enrolled full-time in the second or subsequent year of an undergraduate or professional program at an eligible publicly funded post-secondary institution in Alberta,
- You must have at least a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.2 on a 4.0-point scale based on an 80% full course load in the previous fall and winter terms.
You need to know that a term is defined as a study period of up to 17 weeks in length. Co-op work terms, internships, or exchange programs may be eligible as long as these programs are a mandatory component of the undergraduate or professional program.
You won’t be eligible for a Jason Lang Scholarship if they:
- You are enrolled in a one-year certificate program,
- If you don’t return to a publicly funded post-secondary institution in the fall or winter terms of the next academic year,
- Are recipients of a Louise McKinney Scholarship for the same period of study, or
- You are not eligible for the Jason Lang scholarship program if you have received the lifetime maximum of three Jason Lang Scholarships.
All applicants should have enrolled at eligible Alberta public post-secondary schools.
How to Apply
To apply for the Jason Lang Scholarship program, you need to submit your filled application form to the Student Awards Office at your educational institution.
Selection Process
Those students who meet the eligibility criteria will be nominated by the Student Awards Office at the Alberta post-secondary institution where they currently attend.
In case they are transferred from another publicly funded post-secondary institution, the institution they currently attend will be responsible for confirming the previous year’s eligibility criteria.
The Alberta Student Aid usually sends a cheque to the recipient’s address in December for the fall term or in March for the winter term nomination deadlines.
